NABVFC Symposium Speakers
Brother John Mark Falkenhain is a licensed psychologist with several years of experience in research, writing, and teaching in the areas of celibacy formation, formation for the priestly and religious life, and clergy child sexual abuse. Brother John Mark lectures nationally and internationally, and he is a Fellow in Human Formation with Saint Luke Institute in Silver Spring, Maryland. He has also served his community as vocation director, assistant formation director, and faculty member of Saint Meinrad Seminary. Upon completion of his education at St. Louis University, he worked at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, as a psychology intern, and then at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, first as a resident and then as a staff psychologist. He was also an adjunct assistant professor with the Department of Pediatrics at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. He built an impressive career in the area of pediatric psychotherapy, clinical assessment, consultation and research. |
Sister Susan Rose Francois has served on the Congregation Leadership Team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace since 2015 and is the Assistant Congregation Leader. She publishes her writings on her personal blog (At the Corner of Susan and St. Joseph) and on Global Sisters Report, a project of the National Catholic Reporter. She is one of the authors of In Our Own Words: Religious Life in a Changing World (Liturgical Press 2018) and publishes articles regularly on religious life and social justice. Her book, My Friend Joe: Reflections on St. Joseph was published August 2021 by Kenmare Press. Sister Susan was a Bernardin scholar at Catholic Theological Union where she received a Masters of Arts in Theological Ethics and Spirituality. Her Master's Thesis focused on the ethics of resistance to social sin. She was on the staff of the Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center (2008-2012) where she edited A Matter of Spirit and worked as a justice educator and advocate in areas such as human trafficking, immigration, care of creation and nonviolence. Sister Susan entered the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in 2006. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Lewis and Clark College in 1994 and worked for the City of Portland, Oregon as City Elections Officer prior to entering religious life. |
